As with most classes, there are rules that govern this class to keep order.
.Follow the rules and regulations at the facility or community center where we are training.
.Do not touch any equipment or structure belonging to the facility unless you have permission from the instructor or an administrator of that facility.
.Try your best to arrive around 10 minutes early for class for set-up and to calm yourself down from your stressful day.
.“EMPTY YOUR CUP” For those of you who may have some prior martial art experience, you may see some techniques that are similar to what you were trained before. But, some may be different. PLEASE BE RESPECTFUL to the training you are getting now!! Your old instructor taught you a certain way. I am teaching mine. There are some times where I may allow people to share techniques they learned somewhere else, but I do not wish to debate a student with prior experience. This takes up valuable class time and, in the end, it is just a matter of opinion and personal preference.
5. NO DISGUSTING HABITS!!!! This includes (but not limited to) digging or picking at your nose, touching inappropriate parts of your body, sucking on any part of your body, etc. PLEASE try your best to eliminate these habits before joining. You should also practice eliminating these habits just as you would practicing your marital art training.
6. DO NOT touch another person unless you have their permission or it is a part of the training, as instructed by the instructor. If someone is touching you and you feel uncomfortable, PLEASE report it to the instructor (first,) your parent (second,) or the local law enforcement/police (if you feel the problem has not been resolved.)
.NO MESS OR DRAMA- What happens in your personal life is your business. Don’t bring your drama and personal problems to my Dojang!! If you need to talk to the instructor about a personal problem that you may need help with, that is fine. But, make sure that problem you have does not become a problem for anyone in the Dojang.
.Be respectful of Time- As I have said previously, be on time and try not to leave early unless you absolutely have to.
.Good Personal Hygiene is a MUST!! I mentioned this before, but I will reemphasize it. This also included, not only your body, but keeping your uniform (if you have bought one) clean.
.Practice at home- This class only meets two (2) days a week. That is not nearly enough time to train in an effective manor UNLESS one takes home what he/she has learned and trains at home to reinforce what I have taught you.
.Respect the instructor(s,) each other, and the administrators of the facility- This included speaking to the instructor when they speak to you, saying yes/no sir (sabonem.)
.RAISE YOUR HAND to ask a question or give a comment and wait to be recognized and the sabonem with call on you later. Random comment are very disruptive and waste time and interrupt training.
.No horseplay
.If you are under the age of 18, do not call adults by their first name, unless they specifically tell you to.
.As a common curtesy, inform/contact the instructor if you will be late or not coming to class.
.Bow when coming into class and leaving class.
.Put shoes, workout bag, gear, or anything you bring into DoJang in a nice neat manner.
.No shoes, socks, or jewelry worn during training
.Watch your temper and attitude
.Must have approval of instructor to attend a tournament or go up for rank.
.Do not bring in food or drinks. This includes gum. Only permitted drink to bring into the Dojang is water or Gatorade. These drinks have to be in a bottle with an enclosed cap.
.Break rank the proper way and do not walk in front of class. The sabonem will go into this a little more in detail. But, generally, it is the same way this is executed in the U.S. military.
.No teaching outside of dojang unless instructed by sabonem
.Keep dojang and facility clean
.PARENTS OF STUDENTS UNDER THE AGE OF 18: Please let the sabonem know if your child (who is a student at this Dojang) is sick or has a fever. If your child has been sick within the last week before attending class, please let the sabonem know as well, even if that child is currently well.
.Advertising to others that you practice Tae Kwon Do is discouraged.
.Ask to be dismissed from class. This included bathroom breaks.
.Cell phones on vibrate or off. If the vibration of your phone gets disruptive, you may be asked to turn your phone completely off. Ask the instructor if you have a legitimate excuse to keep your phone on. No texting or other forms of technology.
.Report all injuries, no matter how small, immediately to the sabonem.
