Sparring is a very effective tool used in teaching student how to defend themselves. This is where two individuals fight each other in a non-choreographed competition. Most of the time, sparring gear is worn during this event. There are various pieces of sparring gear that covers the head, face, chest area, teeth, groin area, knees, shins, and feet. Though, you may not have to buy all of these. But, the required pieces are at least the ones that cover the head, hands, feet, and teeth (mouth guard.) Even though the instructor is preparing the student for battle in the real world, the upmost safety precautions are put into place to lessen the amount of injury that may occur. Most of the time (especially if preparing for a tournament type situation,) the sparring is done in a point obtaining competition. Though, the instructor may let the student go “freestyle” and battle for a certain allotted time.
